- What's the point of this? There are several reasons for this project. First of all, there seems to be a
perception out there that Ron Paul doesn't really have all that much support and that his base really only
consists of a small number of very enthusiastic internet geeks. I'd love to counter this perception by gathering
a very large number of virtual signatures. Second, I'm hoping that if we are able to collect a large number of
signatures, this project could do its own little part to advance the momentum we are already gathering. Finally, it
just seems like fun.
- Are you affiliated with the official Ron Paul 2008 campaign? Not at all.
- Who are you then? Just a lone Ron Paul supporter with an idea.
- Why are you asking for so much personal information? Two reasons. First, if this project is actually
successful and attracts some interest, the more data we have, the more authentic our results will be. We want to
make sure the pledge database is filled with real pledges from real people, not multi-votes. Second, data such as
age, state, gender and party affiliation could be used to generate some interesting statistics. Any such statistics
generated will only be used to generate data for this web page.
- I'm nervous about giving out my information. Don't be. I guarantee your data will never be given to
anyone else, and I don't do spam. You will never hear from this site again, except possibly with a single
reminder to vote in your primary, if we really get organized! Please provide all the requested information in order
to make your pledge as valuable as it can be.
- How can multiple people from the same household take the pledge? In order to prevent multi-pledging,
the software checks whether your IP address was used for a previous pledge. This prevents multiple users of the
same computer from pledging. I think this safeguard is too important to remove, so I request that you have the
other members of your household pledge from work or school if at all possible.
- Why does the pledge not include a promise to vote for Ron Paul if he loses the Republican primary and runs on
another ticket? I wanted to make the pledge as inclusive as possible. Some voters may be firm Paul supporters but
still not want to commit to voting for a third party candidate. If the response here is overwhelming, we could consider
an extension to the pledge to include unconditional support (in the extreme, something of this form could be used
to get around the fear of throwing away your vote; "I'll vote for him if you do" - but that would require a huge level
of participation).
