There are innocents that have been executed.  They are framed or thrown onto death row without any solid evidence(see 'The Thin Blue LIne').  Should these people be executed?
Before a person is executed the evidence against him/her must prove 100% that this person commited the crime.  There can be no doubt whatsoever.
Did Steven Truscott commit the rape he was accused of commiting?  No one really knows but he was sentenced to hang.  On what evidence?
I may support the death penalty in cases where the crime commited is heinous AND the evidence presented leaves no doubt in anyone's mind that the suspect commited the crime.

Law enforcement will LIE on the stand to convict anyone they think guilty ! So no one should ever be put to death because of this reason. You say how do you know ? I was married to a former l.e.officer and she said they and she did ALL the time. This was in the second largest city in a state !
I was pro death penalty, NEVER AGAIN !!!

Does the party support it?  I didn't see it in the Nat'l Platform.

No, I don't support it. I wouldn't even support it if someone were convicted of high treason! nah

Wouldn't a true libertarian say the decision is supposed to be left up to the states ??

There's a high correlation between being a libertarian and supporting state's rights and decentralization, but they aren't the same thing.  Most people are rather inconsistent I think too.  For example when it comes to gun control most libertarians and conservatives are happy to protect gun rights from the federal level.  In the U.S., the constitution seems to be on our side for many of these things, but then being a supporter of the constitution isn't quite the same as being an ideological libertarian - it's just lucky that people who are libertarians seldom find themselves cross-wise with the US constitution.
