No climate debate? Yes, there is
IN HIS WEEKLY address on Saturday, President Obama saluted the House of Representatives for passing Waxman-Markey, the gargantuan energy-rationing bill that would amount to the largest tax increase in the nation’s history. It would do so by making virtually everything that depends on energy - which is virtually everything - more expensive.  Read more...

Green job fallacies
Can governments create “green” jobs by spending big wads of money? Sure - but at the cost of destroying other jobs.  The benefits, environmental or otherwise, might offset the costs. But three prominent recent reports advocating the creation of “green” jobs make no attempt to calculate real benefits and real costs. The economic illiteracy revealed is breathtaking.  Read more...

Declaring War on the American Economy
The Cap-and-Trade bill that passed the House yesterday will be a declaration of war on the American economy if it ever is enacted into law. It is ostensibly supposed to help the American economy transition from the old, carbon-based industrial economy to the broad, sunlit (and presumably unpolluted) uplands of a post-industrial one. According to an infomercial masquerading as an AP news story,  the “climate bill may spur energy revolution.” Overlooked by the AP and other minions of the left is the fact that that revolution has been underway, largely without the federal government’s help, for more than a generation now.  Read more...

Carbongate
This was supposed to be the most transparent administration ever. Yet as the House of Representatives prepared to vote on the Waxman-Markey bill, the largest tax increase in U.S. history on 100% of Americans, an attempt was made to suppress a study shredding supporters' arguments.  Read more...

Americans Will Regret Health Care 'Fix'
"In the beginning," says a character in a Peter De Vries novel, "the earth was without form and void. Why didn't they leave well enough alone?" When Washington is finished improving health care, Americans may be asking the same thing. Certainly the debate will compel them to think more clearly about this subject.  Read more...

No room for Republicans on all-Obama U.S. networks
When Barack Obama spoke on the weekend  to a black-tie audience of the nation's leading  television journalists,  the inside jokes were very definitely on them.  "A few nights ago, I was up tossing and turning, trying to figure out exactly what to say," Obama said at the annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association dinner.  "Finally, when I couldn't get back to sleep, I rolled over and asked Brian Williams what he thought."  Read more...

U.S. Doesn't Need the Ultra-Liberal Public Option
Why do we need President Obama's big-bang health-care reform at all? What's the real agenda here? If it's really to cover the truly uninsured, a much cheaper, targeted, small-ball approach would do the trick. But on the other hand, maybe the real goal is a larger, ultra-liberal plan aimed at a government takeover of the U.S. health system.  Read more...

Ron Paul: The World's Most Popular U.S. Congressman
Months after his long-shot bid for the Republican presidential nomination ended, Rep. Ron Paul has become a hot ticket on the international stage. Unlikely as it may seem, Paul, a Texas Republican, is the most popular member of Congress outside the United States, if foreign television appearances are any indication.  Read more...

Could Australia Blow Apart the Great Global Warming Scare?
As the US Congress considers the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, the Australian Senate is on the verge of rejecting its own version of cap-and-trade. The story of this legislation's collapse offers advance notice for what might happen to similar legislation in the US—and to the whole global warming hysteria.  Read more...

'45 million Americans' -- who are those guys?
About 45 million Americans lack healthcare insurance. Or do they? A pro-"universal healthcare" television host recently cited this widely accepted "fact." The number is bogus. Here's the skinny.  Read more...

Why I Support Obama
I changed my mind about Obama.  Here are the top 25 reasons why I support him now.

  • The possibility of being successful is a terrible burden on me. Obama will remove this burden and replace it with a guaranteed comfortable mediocrity.
  • I hate driving powerful and/or roomy and/or spacious vehicles. Under Obama I can pay three times the price for an environmentally friendly electro-scooter.
  • These Wall Street firms need the U.S. government to step in and show them how to properly manage money and stay solvent.
  • I feel personal hatred for the successful and want to see them punished.
  • I’m a little shy when it comes to teaching my 1st grader about sex. Un...

Is Obama Stupid or Evil?
Those are pretty much the only options if you support a windfall profits tax.  Either you are woefully ignorant of economics, or you know it's bad policy and support it anyway to advance yourself poltically.

To make matters worse, Obama is actually putting this forward as part of his energy policy.  Other pillars of this incredibly awful policy include the equally bogus notion of "cracking down" on oil speculators, raising taxes to funnel money into alternative energy boondoggles, raising the price (and reducing options) of new vehicles via mileage mandates, drastically raising the price of energy via mandates on the fraction of energy derived from "renewable sources" (while simultaneously opposing nuclear energy), and sim... Is There Hope?: A Peak at the Next Generation
by Sean Gangol

I remember there was a time when I wasn’t as cynical as I am now about the future of this country. It was during the time I first discovered the fundamentals of Libertarianism after reading Hope by L. Neil Smith and Aaron Zelman. I knew of the freedoms that we have lost, but I believed that it was possible to convince enough people to help take them back. I am amazed at how naive and optimistic I was, eight years ago. My outlook has changed since then.

My experiences began when I took American Government during the fall semester of 2001 at a community college in Tomball, Texas. My class just happened to take place on what became one of the darkest periods of American history. On the day of... Read more.

Mandatory Food Rationing Under Obama
During a campaign speech in Oregon, Obama made this amazing statement:  "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."  Notice the underlined parts.  Is this guy for real?  What is the implication?  They're already trying to (in essence) ban SUV's and control our home energy usage (e.g. CFL's).  Is he suggesting that the feds have a say in how much we are allowed to eat?

Emulating North Korea on "Earth Day" was step 1:

Next we can prete... Read more.
